This year’s two-day Foundation Trust Network (FTN) governance conference, “Governance in Challenging Times”, is being held in Birmingham on 8 and 9 September.
It is open to all FTN member organisations and, according to the FTN, will give an opportunity for chairs, chief executives, executive and non-executive directors, and senior staff involved in governance to meet, discuss and focus on FT governance and to share their knowledge and experience with, and learn from, organisations outside the NHS.
Each FTN members organisation can send 4 delegates to the conference free of charge.
Day one of the conference focuses on Leadership in Challenging Times. According to the FTN, “The challenges presented by the economic crisis have ramifications across all sectors – private, public and the third sector. Now, more than ever effective governance is critical to steer organisations through challenging times whilst continuing their push for quality improvement, excellence, productivity and efficiency. Day one of the conference will explore the theme of leadership in these challenging times, looking at corporate governance, regulation, leadership and the role of the board.”
Day two of the conference looks at Membership and governors in challenging times. According to the FTN, “Citizen engagement and public involvement have been the enduring themes of public service aspiration over the past decade. With a growing membership of over 1.3 million members across the country, the foundation trust model is one of the few parts of the public sector to deliver this aspiration. Day two will look at the role of governors and members, including the added value of the ‘authentic voice’ in influencing the direction of the foundation trust, the specific role of governors in driving quality, the importance of strategic intervention as well as exploring what motivates the membership.”
